Footplates that only adjust for height leave a lot of clients with their ankles forced into a position they cannot hold. These footplates adjust for angle as well, so you can set plantarflexion or dorsiflexion to match your client’s available range without pushing against a contracture or a spastic pattern.
Getting that angle right does more than improve comfort. Feet that are properly supported stop the client sliding forward in the seat, take load off the back of the thighs, and give a stable base for a shower or toileting session that might run a while.
They fit as an accessory to a shower commode, so a chair already in the home can be upgraded without replacing the whole frame. That is often the quickest way to resolve a positioning problem that has appeared since the chair was first set up.
