A community therapist cannot carry a hoist in the boot. The Raiser Pro separates into a baseplate and a handle, which is why it turns up so often on home visits and in respite settings.
It is a manual sit to stand platform. The client steps onto the low plate, holds the handle and pulls up to standing while the carer supports from behind, then the carer wheels them the short distance to the next surface. The step on height is deliberately low so a client with limited hip and knee range can get a foot on it, and the surface is contoured and anti slip. The padded lower leg supports adjust one at a time, which helps where the legs do not sit the same way.
It suits clients who can take weight through their legs and grip a handle but cannot complete a stand and step transfer safely: after stroke, with MS, with Parkinson’s, or through post surgical weakness. It keeps the client working in the transfer and takes load off the carer, and the central brake gives audible feedback when it is on. It is not a substitute for a hoist where the client has no weight bearing ability at all.
