Power assist wheels take the strain out of self propelling without changing the chair. A sensor in each push rim picks up the client’s push and a motor inside the hub multiplies it, so a push goes further and a hill gets shorter.
Fitted here with Marathon Plus Evo tyres in black, this build is set up for real footpaths: puncture protection for glass and gravel, and grip for a wet Tasmanian morning. The wheels come off with a quick release and the chair folds the way it always did, so your client keeps their transfer technique and their vehicle set up.
This configuration comes without the ECS remote control, which means the wheels are switched on and off at the wheel. That works well for a client with the reach and trunk control to do it comfortably.
