Often called a pommel or knee block, the Spex Standard Medial Thigh Support is a padded wedge that attaches to the front of the seat pan and sits between the client’s thighs. It stops the legs adducting and crossing, which keeps the hips neutral and the pelvis where the seating was set up to hold it.
The hardware is built around transfers. It flips down out of the way for a side transfer and lifts off entirely for a forward transfer, and if the lift-off is not wanted, it can be locked with a bolt so nothing comes away unexpectedly. Height and depth both adjust, so the block can be set close or forward along the thigh to suit the client. The cover is removable and washable, and gel-foam or pressure relieving overlays can be added.
It suits a client with adductor tone, scissoring or a windswept posture in a manual or powered chair, and it mounts on Spex seat cushions and most solid seat pans. Three sizes cover most adults and children, with custom made to order.
