This is the deepest cushion in the Spex Classic range, and it is built for a client whose positioning needs have moved past what contouring alone can hold. Deep pelvic immersion, a gel-foam ischial well and high medial and lateral thigh contouring work together to stop the pelvis sliding, rotating or thrusting forward, and a step at the rear of the cushion gives the hip belt something to work against.
Under the top foam is the Spex strategic positioning base, a grid of removable cells. The therapist adds or takes out cells on the spot, without tools, to build a leg length discrepancy or a pelvic rotation correction into the cushion itself. That is the part clinicians tend to value: the shape is set in the chair at the fitting, and reset at review, rather than sent away.
It suits a client whose pelvis needs correcting or accommodating, whose tone pulls the thighs into adduction or abduction, or who sits windswept, particularly where external thigh laterals cannot be fitted or are not doing enough. A client who self-propels, transfers independently and only needs mild positioning will find these contours restrictive. There is no pump and no routine maintenance beyond washing the covers.
Good to know
- The 50 mm rear step is standard; a full-length contouring version without the step is available at no extra cost (code 1111-0304-000) at a lower pressure care rating
- Not compatible with Spex thigh supports or medial thigh supports
- Custom sizes, cut-outs, back cane cut-outs and overlays can be scripted; the Spex script form is linked below
- Outer cover comes in black as standard, with eight colour options to order
