Clients who scissor or adduct at the hips lose their base of support on the toilet, and the position falls apart before anything useful happens. The padded abductor drops into the slot at the front edge of the HTS seat and keeps the legs apart so the pelvis stays square.
It pulls out again by squeezing the blue latch, so it is there for the clients who need it and gone for the ones who do not. Used with the standard deflector, it also steadies the deflector in the slot.
For a therapist, it is a small part that often decides whether the rest of the HTS setup holds. For the carer, it is one push to fit and one squeeze to remove.
