Some children sit on the floor perfectly well for five minutes and then slump. The R82 Scallop is made for that gap. It is a flexible shell rather than a rigid seat, so it steadies the child without locking them still, and it is aimed at children at GMFCS levels 1 to 3 who need a little support to stay upright at mat time or on the lounge room floor.
Two attachment straps let the shell sit on an ordinary chair as well, so the same seat covers floor time and the dining table. It is light, has two carry handles, and travels easily between home, school and the park. The reversible fabric cushion comes in red and blue or grey and green, lifts straight out of the shell and goes through the machine.
Who it suits
A child with mild to moderate physical disability who sits on the floor at home or in class but tires or slumps without support, or a child with autism or a sensory processing difference who settles with the tactile boundary the shell provides. It is not a postural seating system: a child who needs pelvic control, lateral trunk supports or tilt should be assessed for an activity chair instead.
