This is the Mustang gait trainer supplied without the chest support, for a child whose trunk control is good enough that a chest pad would only get in the way. The open U-shaped frame stays, so the child steps into it from behind and there is nothing across the front to climb over.
The Mustang holds a child upright and stable through the pelvis and hips, which leaves their energy free for stepping. The centre bar can be angled forward to encourage a forward lean and a more natural gait pattern, and the frame has built in suspension to take some of the jolt out of walking on hard floors.
Leaving the chest support off suits a child working towards independent walking, where the goal is to strip back support as their balance improves. Supports can be added again later if the child’s needs change.
