Feet that hang unsupported undo a good sitting position from the bottom up. This footrest gives the child a surface to load through, and the two stabilising belts across the feet keep them there when the child pushes, kicks or has strong extensor patterns.
With the feet held flat and the knees at a set height, pressure spreads through the thighs and comes off the back of the knees, and the pelvis stays back in the seat. Children are often calmer and stay at the table longer once the feet have somewhere to be. For therapists it also gives a consistent base to work from when assessing trunk and head control.
The footrest height adjusts, and the belts can be released quickly for transfers.
