The Excel Superlite Transit is the attendant-propelled version of the Excel Superlite, for a client who is pushed everywhere rather than pushing themselves. Small rear wheels in place of large spoked ones make the chair narrower and easier to steer through doorways and around furniture, and drum hub brakes on the push handles give the carer proper control, with a park lock for transfers.
The double-braced aluminium frame is light enough for one person to load into a boot. The backrest folds down, the frame folds narrow, the polyurethane tyres never need inflating, and the upholstery is spill-proof nylon. Padded armrests flip back for side transfers and the legrests swing away and lift off, so getting in and out is not a wrestle.
Who it suits
A client who does not self-propel and relies on a carer for all mobility outside the home: shopping, appointments, respite outings. The drum brakes are the reason to choose it over a basic transit chair where there are slopes to manage. Because the small rear wheels put the brakes out of the client’s reach, choose the self-propelled Excel Superlite if there is any chance the client will push themselves or need to lock the chair unaided.
