Where a Sara standing aid is already in the house or the facility, this is the sling that goes with it. It fits the Sara Stedy, Sara Flex, Sara Lite and Sara 3000, wrapping around the client’s back and under the arms with a fixed support belt that closes at the front, then hooking onto the lifter so one carer can bring the client from sitting to standing.
It is polyester and goes through a normal machine wash with the buckles and hook-and-loop closed, which keeps it practical for daily toileting and chair to bed work in residential care. Each size is colour coded on the sling itself, so staff on a busy shift can pick the right one without reading a label. Sizing is taken from the client’s waist while they are seated, and Arjo advises going to the smaller size when the measurement falls between two.
The client needs to be able to bear weight through at least one leg, hold their trunk reasonably upright and follow a simple instruction. This is an active sling and it depends on that. A client who cannot weight bear, or who cannot hold themselves up through the lift, needs a passive hoist and a full body sling instead.
Good to know
- Always use the lowest safe working load in the system; the Sara Lite is rated to 175 kg
- A disposable single patient version and a wipeable version are also available from Arjo
- Machine wash only; do not bleach, iron or dry clean
- Check the sling size against the client’s lifter before ordering
