The Vicair Active O2 is a hybrid: an ergonomically shaped foam base with Vicair SmartCell air compartments built into it. The foam front supports the thighs and gives the cushion a firm, predictable edge, which is what keeps it stable during a transfer and easy to handle when the wheelchair is being lifted into a car.
The rear of the cushion is where the air does the work. Four independent SmartCell compartments sit over the ischial tuberosities and coccyx, the area carrying the highest load. The cells move under the client and redistribute pressure as they shift, and each compartment can be tuned by adding or removing cells, so the cushion can be set to the individual rather than issued as a fixed shape.
It is commonly used with spinal cord injury, paraplegia and multiple sclerosis, and it suits active users who self-propel and transfer independently. This is the lower profile version, chosen when seat height and transfer distance need to stay down; a taller version is available where more immersion is needed. The cover is breathable and machine washable once the foam inlay is taken out, and a fluid resistant liner protects the foam.
