The Klaxon Twist is a front-mounted power add-on for manual wheelchairs, distributed in Australia through Etac and Ki Mobility. The drive wheel docks onto a bracket on the chair frame and lifts the front castors clear of the ground, so the user steers on a handlebar and controls speed with a twist throttle. Undocking takes seconds and the chair goes back to being an ordinary manual wheelchair.
One unit covers five configurations: front mounted with a folding handlebar, front mounted with a joystick, rear mounted with user control, rear mounted with a carer control, and a fold-stow-go setup for cars and travel. Central, rear and lateral linking systems suit most rigid and folding frames, including Ki Mobility, Motion Composites and TiLite chairs. The mounting height adjusts, so the same unit works across different chair geometries.
The battery is removable and meets airline hand luggage rules, and the Klaxon app handles speed profiles, battery status and diagnostics. A Bluetooth controller, carer controller, handlebar bag and wheel kits are available as options.
Who it suits
Active manual wheelchair users who want independent range for shopping, work, study and outdoor paths without moving to a power wheelchair. The light weight and removable battery suit people who travel, and the carer-control configuration works for users who are pushed over longer distances.
Good to know
- The linking bracket is fitted to the chair by our technicians and stays on the chair
- Frame compatibility and castor clearance are checked before fitting
- Australian speed limits for power assist devices apply on footpaths; we set the profile to suit
