Spreading butter or cutting a vegetable needs two hands unless the food is held for you. This board does the holding: stainless steel spikes set into the surface grip a slice of bread, a potato or an onion so it stays put while one hand does the work.
The raised corner is the other half of the idea. It gives the bread an edge to push against, so the knife can load and spread without the slice sliding away, and it makes it possible to butter a sandwich one handed with no help at all.
It suits clients with hemiplegia, an upper limb injury, or tremor and coordination difficulties that make a loose chopping board unsafe. The board is moulded in one piece, so there are no joins to collect food, and it wipes down quickly after use.
