Some children cannot bring their feet in to the standard foot support position, usually because of limited hip abduction or rotation, or because one leg sits well out from the midline. These width extensions widen the gap between the foot support rod fixings so the plates can be set where the legs actually rest.
Forcing the feet inwards to meet a fixed support tends to drag the pelvis around with them, so being able to move the supports out is what keeps the seated position honest. The extensions bolt on and stay part of the frame once set.
They fit several R82 bases.
