Toileting is where a seated sling hoist becomes hard work. The Oxford Journey is a powered sit to stand lifter, so the client is raised to standing with clothing accessible, which makes the job faster and keeps some dignity in it.
The client’s feet go on the tray, a standing sling goes around the trunk and onto the loop hooks, and the lifter takes them up to standing for a move to a chair or commode. The cow horn handgrips adjust to the client, the knee pad sets to their height, and the calf straps come off if they are not wanted. There is an emergency stop and manual lowering, and the foot tray is removable.
Who it suits
Clients with partial weight bearing and enough trunk control and grip to hold the handles, often after a stroke, with Parkinson’s disease, or in later stage frailty, where a full sling hoist is not needed yet. It keeps the client active in the transfer rather than passive.
It also folds without tools and drops low enough to go in a car boot or a cupboard, which suits a home with no room to park a hoist and makes it straightforward to hire.
