For a client who spends long periods in bed and is at risk of pressure injury, the Optimal 5zon is a non powered foam mattress that does the work without a pump, a power lead or an alarm going off at night. The foam core is split into zones so the areas under the heels, sacrum and shoulders each get the right amount of give.
A two part core lets the layers move against each other as the person shifts, which draws shear away from the skin and into the mattress. The DuoCore support function also helps hold the pelvis and hamstrings in position when the head end is raised, so the person is less likely to slide down the bed while sitting up to eat or watch television.
Because it is passive, it is well suited to home settings where a pump is unwelcome, and to clients who sleep poorly with air mattress movement. The hygiene cover comes off for laundering.
