Hip guides narrow the seat to the width of the client sitting in it. A seat that is too wide lets the pelvis slide sideways, and once the pelvis is off centre the trunk follows and the client spends the session working to correct it.
Set the guides to your client and the pelvis has a defined space to sit in. That makes a real difference for clients with a windswept posture or an asymmetric trunk, and it means one pair of guides can grow with a child across several years of the same chair.
They adjust in and out, are padded on the contact surface, and can be removed altogether if a client no longer needs them. Sizes follow the chair.
