The Spex Stylo is the mechanism that carries a Spex head support pad on a wheelchair back, and the three models differ mainly in how far forward they reach. That reach is the decision to get right: a pad that cannot reach the head is no support at all, and one that reaches too far pushes the head into flexion.
The short model suits a client who needs light posterior support close to the backrest. The mid and long models add spherical hinge joints that let the pad be angled through the frontal and sagittal planes, which is what you need for an asymmetric head position, and the long model reaches well forward for a kyphotic posture or a deep back cushion. All three give generous vertical and sideways travel, so the pad can be set off centre where the head actually sits.
Every adjustment uses a single hex key, and the machined aluminium stem has two flat edges so it cannot rotate in the clamp and drift out of position. The mid and long models come in a flip-back version that swings the pad clear for transfers, and in a short stem version for low back heights. It is transport certified for use in a vehicle. If the client needs a head pad that moves with a dynamic backrest, look at a dynamic head support instead.
