A harness only works where the straps sit. On a client with a narrow or asymmetric shoulder line, the shoulder straps slide outward off the shoulders and the anterior support quietly stops doing its job. Spex shoulder strap guides are a pair of aluminium retainers that mount to the top of a Spex back support and hold the straps at the point the clinician chose.
They adjust for width and height, so the position can be set at fitting and reset as a child grows or posture changes, and they take both common strap widths. They come as a pair with the attachment hardware, and are made in New Zealand.
They are used most often in paediatric and complex seating, with an anterior trunk support or harness, where forward or lateral trunk lean needs controlling and the straps have to stay put to control it. The standard guides suit wider back supports; a compact version is made for narrower backs.
