The switch pole lets a carer run the TRAM’s electric lift from standing, without bending down to the front handle. Over a day of transfers, that saves a lot of repeated stooping, and stooping next to a loaded lift is where carers hurt themselves.
Turned the other way around, the same pole puts the control in the client’s hands. That is the part clinicians tend to care about. A client who raises and lowers themselves is practising a decision as well as a movement, and it changes the transfer from something done to them into something they do.
It is also the option to fit when the front handle has been removed to open up the client’s access to their environment during gait training.
