When a pelvic belt is not enough and a rigid thoracic support is too much, the Torso Vest is the usual next step. It fixes to the backrest and wraps around the trunk, giving a firm but flexible hold that keeps a child with low tone or poor trunk control upright and centred.
Because it wraps rather than strapping over the shoulders, it does not dig in the way shoulder straps can during a long day at school, and it leaves the arms and shoulders free for play and function. It is made in six sizes across a wide shoulder to pelvis range, measured with the child seated using the R82 vests and belts measurement guide.
It mounts to R82 seating including the x:panda, Kudu, Wombat Solo and Wombat Living with the supplied fixings. For a child with strong extensor thrust or marked asymmetry, laterals and a four-point harness will give more control than a vest.
Good to know
- Measure shoulder to pelvis with the child seated before choosing a size
- Always used with a pelvic belt; the vest is a trunk support, not a restraint
- Check compatibility with the backrest of the specific R82 seat before ordering
