The pommel sits between the knees and gives a child something to hold their legs apart against. For a child whose legs pull into adduction, it stops the knees crossing and helps keep the pelvis square on the seat.
It is a small part with a large effect on sitting position. When the legs are held in a reasonable alignment, the pelvis stays level, the trunk sits over it more easily and pressure is spread across the whole seat and not loaded on one side.
It mounts on adjustable removable hardware, so the depth and angle can be set at a fitting and the pommel swung clear for transfers. Three sizes are made to suit different leg lengths and the amount of separation a child needs.
