For clients managing chronic pain at home, a TENS unit gives them something they can reach for without adding another medication. The Physio Duo TENS+ is a dual channel digital unit that delivers small electrical impulses through skin electrodes to interrupt pain signals, and it is used for chronic intractable pain as well as post surgical and post traumatic acute pain.
It also runs an EMS mode, which is useful where you are working on muscle re education or trying to slow disuse atrophy. Between them there are five adjustable TENS modes, three adjustable EMS modes and twenty four professional presets, so you can set a client up on a programme and have them repeat it without fiddling with parameters.
The screen is large and clearly laid out, which helps older clients and anyone with low vision. The kit arrives complete with leads, electrodes, battery, mains adaptor and a hard case, so nothing has to be sourced separately before the first session.
TENS is not suitable for everyone, and it should be started and supervised by a treating clinician.
