Heels break down fast on a client who cannot shift their own legs, and padding alone does not stop it: the heel has to come off the surface entirely. The Medline HeelMedix does that, holding the foot so the heel floats clear of the mattress with no contact at all.
The stabiliser wedge is the part that sets this version apart. It attaches to the side of the boot and holds the leg in neutral, so a relaxed leg does not roll into medial or lateral rotation overnight. The open end leaves the heel visible, which means skin checks and wound monitoring happen without taking the boot off, and air reaches the skin between checks. A low-friction inner lining with an antimicrobial finish cuts shear, colour-coded straps make it obvious when it is on correctly, and exit ports on both sides let DVT compression tubing pass through without pressing on the leg. It is nylon, latex free and machine washable, with a mesh bag so boot and wedge stay together through the laundry.
It is for a client who is bed-bound or long periods supine and cannot reposition: after a stroke or hip fracture, in palliative care, or with diabetic neuropathy and a heel already at risk. For a mobile client who only needs protection in a chair, a simple heel cushion or gel pad is lighter and quicker to manage.
