When a child cannot grip or control the wrist, standard walker handles stop being useful. These forearm supports replace or supplement the handles on Schuchmann paediatric walkers: the child rests the forearm in the trough and holds a grip, which moves load off the wrists and hands and helps steady the gait pattern.
They also help where a child pushes down hard on the handles and loses posture as a result. The supports adjust in three planes, so the angle and position can be set to the child’s arm rather than forcing the arm to fit the frame. That makes them worth fitting for a child whose arm position changes with growth or tone.
They are ordered to match the walker frame size, so have the marcy or malte size to hand when you enquire. Schuchmann walkers are usually specified for GMFCS levels II to IV.
