Some children take off downhill in an anterior walker faster than their legs can keep up, and the result is a stumble or a fall. The friction brake is fitted to the rear wheels of the Marcy walker to add drag, so the walker only rolls as fast as the child can step.
It is adjustable, so a therapist can set enough resistance to slow a child on a slope or a smooth gym floor without making the walker so heavy that the child cannot initiate a step. That balance is usually what makes the difference between a child gait training independently and a child needing hands on support.
The brakes mount on the rear wheels of the walker and stay there, so there is nothing for the child or the carer to remember to engage. They are also useful when the walker needs to stay put during a transfer in or out.
Give us your Marcy size and we’ll quote the matching brakes.
