A fixed rail is still the most reliable handhold you can give a client. The K Care straight rail is the standard stainless steel version: a 304 grade rail with concealed flanges, so once it is installed the fixings sit behind a cover with nothing to catch a sleeve or collect grime.
It can go in horizontally, vertically or on an angle, and each flange has several fixing points so the installer can find framing. Choose the length by the movement you want to support: a short rail gives one solid pull-up point beside a toilet, a long rail lets the client slide a hand along the wall through a shower. It complies with the Australian standard for grab rails and wipes clean with ordinary bathroom cleaners.
Where the wall cannot be fixed into, or the client is renting, a suction or floor-mounted rail is the option to look at instead.
