These are the swing-away lateral supports for the JAY Encompass backrest, ordered by side and size. They give firm trunk containment while the client is seated, then release and move out of the way so a carer can transfer the client without fighting the hardware.
That is the practical problem with strong lateral support: the more contact you give, the harder the transfer becomes. Swing-away hardware separates the two, so you can set the laterals as close as the client’s posture needs.
Left and right are specified separately, so an asymmetric set-up is straightforward where a client has a scoliosis or a consistent lean. A personalised pad option is available where the standard sizes do not give the right contact.
