When a client is already carrying a pressure injury, or is in palliative care and cannot be repositioned often, a static surface stops being enough. The OptiCell AIR 1 SX is an alternating hybrid air mattress that cycles pressure through the cells so no one area carries load for long.
The pump reads the client’s weight and position and sets itself, which takes the guesswork away from family carers and support workers who are not going to be adjusting dials overnight. Hybrid construction means the client is still lying on a supportive base, so the surface does not feel unstable for someone anxious about being on air.
This single width version is made for a standard home care bed, and the pump hangs off the footboard. It needs a power point at the bedside and should be checked on setup by someone who knows the system, which we handle as part of delivery.
