The Zephair is a replacement air system for clients whose skin is already in trouble or about to be. Its alternating cells sit on a firm foam foundation rather than directly on the bed base, so if the pump fails or the power goes out the surface holds its shape and the client is not left lying on the platform. A heel pressure transfer region is angled into the foot end, the site that fails most often and gets the least attention.
The cells are narrow, which keeps the change in position under the client gentler than a wide-cell system. The pump is quiet, mounts on most bed ends, takes a one-touch filter change and warns on low pressure and power failure. The cover is a four-way stretch vapour-permeable polyurethane with a welded zip and a waterfall flap, and CPR release sits on the supply tubes where a carer can find it without fighting through linen and bed rails.
Who it suits
Clients at high or very high risk who cannot reposition themselves: palliative care at home, advanced neurological conditions, or an existing sacral or trunk injury. It is made in a wide range of sizes, including double, queen and king so a couple can keep sharing a bed, and split queen halves for a dual-motor adjustable bed. A client at low or medium risk who still moves in bed is usually better off on a static foam mattress such as the Oska Fika.
