Hip precautions, back pain and limited reach all stop a client from getting a sock over their own foot. The Dorking stocking aid does the reaching for them.
The sock is fed onto a shaped, flexible plastic gutter and held by the side notches. The client drops the gutter to the floor, slides their foot into the open end, and pulls the sock up the leg using the long cotton tapes while staying seated upright. It is a short, learnable routine that most clients pick up in one session.
It is light, it costs little, and it comes retail packed so it can be handed over straight from an assessment. For a lot of clients it is the single item that makes independent dressing possible again.
