Getting in and out of a car is where a lot of clients lose confidence. The HandyBar gives them something solid to hold. It slots into the U shaped striker plate on the door frame of most cars, needs no tools and no fitting, and comes out again in seconds to live in the door pocket or the glovebox.
Because it is not fixed to one vehicle, the same handle moves from the driver’s side to the passenger side, into a relative’s car or a taxi. The grip is padded and non slip, the steel bar is light enough for a client to manage on their own, and a seat belt cutter and window breaker are built into the handle for an emergency.
Who it suits
Clients who struggle with the last part of a car transfer: lowering into a low seat or standing from it after hip or knee surgery, with arthritis, or with general weakness. It is also useful for carers who would otherwise be pulled on during the transfer.
Good to know
- Check the client’s car has a U-shaped striker plate before ordering; most do
- Emergency belt cutter and window breaker are built into the handle
