Putting a sock on is a small thing until a client cannot reach their feet, and then it is the reason they wait for someone to visit. The Etac Socky gives that job back to them. The sock stretches over a folded polyester sleeve, the aid is lowered to the floor by its cord, the foot goes in, and the client pulls the sock up the leg with both hands from a seated position.
A flexible polypropylene sheet inside the sleeve keeps the aid from dragging on carpet or catching on the floor, and two plastic hooks hold the sock open so it does not collapse before the foot gets in. It is soft and flexible, so it packs flat into a drawer or a bag and travels with the client.
Two lengths are made. The short one suits ankle and knee-length socks including flight socks, and the long one takes long socks and tights. It works well for a client with limited hip flexion, back pain or reduced hand strength after a hip or knee, or with arthritis, provided they can hold a cord and pull.
