Some clients will never manage a daily maintenance routine, and a cushion that needs one is a pressure injury waiting to happen. The EquaGel General is low maintenance by design: dry-polymer gel, nothing to inflate, no valve to check, no pump to lose.
It is made in two stages, a thin-wall comfort layer over a thick-wall support layer. The gel columns buckle under the ischial tuberosities and coccyx so load is pushed sideways into the rest of the cushion instead of staying under the bony points, and the pelvic area is contoured to help hold the pelvis where you set it. Clients who run hot usually find it cooler, and the cover is fluid resistant, vapour permeable and flame resistant, and comes off for a cold wash. The gel wipes down with warm soapy water.
It suits a wheelchair or lift chair user at medium pressure risk who sits for long periods.
Good to know
- Size by wheelchair seat width and depth; the cushion should match the seat pan, not the client
- Cover: cold wash, air dry or tumble dry without heat
- Gel: warm soapy water or 1:10,000 bleach solution
- About 3 kg in the smaller sizes
