Where continence is part of the clinical picture, the cushion needs to survive daily accidents without the fluid reaching the cells. This version of the Vicair O2 XXtra comes with the Incotec cover, a knitted polyester coated in fluid resistant polyurethane. Spills sit on the surface and wipe off, and the cover goes through a machine wash when it needs a proper clean.
Underneath, the cushion is built from compartments of air filled SmartCells sized for bariatric clients. The cells move with the client, take up minor pelvic obliquity on their own, and can be redistributed between compartments where the pelvis needs more deliberate support. It suits clients at risk of skin breakdown and those already under treatment for a pressure injury.
One thing to keep in mind when you prescribe: the fluid resistant layer reduces the airflow and moisture handling the O2 cushion is capable of, so weigh continence protection against heat at the seat surface for that client.
