The lateral support backrest replaces the standard back of a Configura Comfort with one that is shaped to hold the trunk. It suits a client whose sitting balance is not reliable and who drifts to one side as the day goes on, especially where leaning is starting to become habitual.
Containment through the trunk does several jobs at once. The pelvis is more likely to stay square in the seat, the spine is held closer to midline, and the person is not using their arms to prop themselves up, which frees the hands for eating, activities and using a call button.
The support is built into the backrest itself, so it is part of the chair and there is nothing for carers to fit each time the client sits down.
