A calf strap stops the lower legs sliding back behind the footplates, which is one of the quieter safety problems in a chair. It runs across the back of the calves between the legrest hangers and keeps the feet supported where they were set.
It is worth considering for a client with low tone, involuntary movement or reduced sensation, who may not notice a leg drifting back until the skin is caught or the foot is dragging. For a carer it removes a job they were doing by hand several times a day, and it makes the chair safer to push.
The strap fastens to the hangers and adjusts to suit the chair.
