For a client at risk of a pressure injury who is spending long stretches in bed, this overlay sits on top of the existing mattress and softens the contact between skin and bed. The fill is silicone coated cylindrical fibre, which holds its loft instead of flattening out under load.
The silicone coating lets the fibres move against each other, so friction and shear at the skin are reduced when your client repositions or slides down the bed. Air moves through the fill as well, which helps keep the skin cooler and drier overnight.
The cover is a breathable cotton and polyester blend and the whole overlay goes through a domestic washing machine, so it suits home care as well as residential aged care.
