This cushion is filled with silicone coated cylindrical fibres. They hold their loft under load and do not pack down, and because they are coated they slide against each other, so friction and shear at the skin are reduced as the client moves in the seat.
The coating also repels moisture, which matters for clients who perspire heavily or who have episodes of incontinence. Air moves through the fill, so heat does not build up under the thighs the way it can in a closed cushion. Between them, those two properties target the conditions that turn a red mark into a pressure injury.
It is used widely in geriatric and palliative care, where clients sit for long periods and skin integrity is already fragile. The cotton and polyester cover is flame retardant and goes through a normal machine wash with standard detergent.
