A hybrid air and foam mattress is for a person at real risk of pressure injury who still has to be able to move on the surface. The foam gives a stable edge to sit on and transfer from, and the air cells take on the work of redistributing pressure while the person is lying down.
Who it suits
Clients on extended bed rest, people with little ability to reposition themselves, and anyone with a history of pressure injury or existing damage that has to heal. It also suits a household where a carer is turning someone through the night and needs the surface itself to carry part of that job.
Comfort matters as much as the clinical side, because a person who cannot settle will not stay on the mattress long enough for it to help. The surface is quiet in use and the cover is removable for cleaning, so the mattress can be decontaminated and reissued.
