The ActiveCare Magnetic Reed Switch is the sensor end of a falls monitoring setup for a client who gets up without help and is at risk when they do. A magnet clips to the person’s clothing and is joined by a cord to the switch on the monitor. When they move away from the bed or chair, the magnet separates and the alarm calls the carer.
It responds to the person moving away, so it works for someone very light, someone who sits on the edge of the bed for long periods, and someone who has learnt to work around equipment on the bed.
Because the trigger is physical separation, there is nothing for the client to operate and no decision for them to make, which is what makes it workable in cognitive decline.
