This is a hammock style full body sling with a built-in head support and a pommel strap on the leg edge, which together hold the client in a reclined position through the lift. It is applied with the client lying down, and once the transfer is done it can be left under them, subject to a risk assessment.
The closed-leg design is part of why it works for a reclined transfer, and it is also the reason it suits amputee presentations, where divided legs have nothing to hold. Loop tapes are colour coded, with extra loops provided if optional hip tapes are added.
Silva-Superfine Plus is a polyester 3D spacer fabric, soft against the skin and open enough to let air through, which matters a great deal in a sling that stays in place rather than coming off after each transfer. It takes a hot wash and a low heat tumble dry. Every sling carries a care label with its size, safe working load, date of manufacture and serial number, plus a service label for recording inspections, which keeps audit trails straightforward.
It is for a passive client with poor head and trunk control who cannot tolerate repeated sling fitting: palliative care, advanced neurological conditions, or a stroke with limited sitting balance.
Good to know
- Loop attachment fits loop-style spreader bars; check the hoist before ordering, as a clip version is also available
- Leaving a sling in situ needs a documented risk assessment; check the skin regularly
- Size by shoulder circumference and C7 to back of knee using the Silvalea sizing guide
- Inspect the sling before every use and after every wash, as the service label requires
