BetterLiving is Novis’s alternating air system for home care and aged care, and it comes two ways. The full replacement mattress takes the place of the existing mattress and is built for clients at risk through to high risk, with a cell-in-cell design and a base layer that stays inflated so the client is never left on the bed base if the pump stops. The overlay goes on top of a sound existing mattress and suits at-risk clients who need alternating therapy at lower cost and lower weight.
The same digital control unit runs both, and its AutoCair function is the part that saves carers trouble: it senses the client’s weight and sets the pressure itself, with manual adjustment still there if a clinician wants it. Cycle time is adjustable, and there are static, max-inflate, Fowler and transport modes for care tasks, sitting up and moving the bed. A low-pressure and power-failure alarm sounds and shows, and CPR release is quick at both the mattress and the pump. The cover is a water resistant, vapour permeable multi-stretch polyurethane with welded seams and a zip-off top for laundering.
Clients who need low air loss for moisture management, or who sit above the replacement mattress rating, should go to a higher specification system such as ProCair.
