This mechanical column scale reads out BMI as well as weight, which helps where nutritional status is being tracked and no computer is at hand. As the patient steps on, a coloured disc moves behind a window beside a printed height scale, and the BMI band is read directly off the dial.
The bands are colour coded into underweight, healthy, overweight and obese, so the result can be shown to the client and talked through on the spot. The weight dial itself is large and clearly divided.
The steel construction resists corrosion inside and out, so damp bathrooms and wash areas are not a problem, and the rubber tread pad stops feet sliding. It needs no power at all, and transport castors let staff wheel it between rooms. An optional measuring rod completes the height and weight station.
