The Caribou is a flat to load standing frame, and this is the version where the tilt is driven by a powered actuator on a handset. The carer loads the child with the frame flat, then raises them smoothly into standing at the press of a button.
Who it suits
It suits a child or young adult who needs full postural support to stand, in prone, supine or upright, and who is heavy enough or complex enough that lifting them into position by hand is not reasonable. It is also the sensible choice where one carer works alone, or where a hoist is used for the transfer and the frame needs to do the rest.
The soft polyurethane body pad can be shaped with wedges, and the frame takes a wide set of head, trunk, hip, knee and foot supports, so the fit can be built up around the child and changed as they grow. The raised frame leaves room underneath for a floor hoist.
Powered tilt also gives the carer both hands free during the change of position, which matters when a child needs steadying or a strap adjusted on the way up.
