This removable pommel gives leg separation when it is needed and lifts out when it is not. That is the practical difference for carers: the seat is clear for a standing transfer or a sit to stand, and the pommel goes back in once the client is settled.
Clinically it does the same work as a fixed abductor, holding the thighs apart so the pelvis stays level and the client is less likely to slide forward through a long sitting session. Being removable also makes it easier to test with a client who may only need it part of the day.
Five sizes run from very small through to full width, so there is scope to match the separation to the client.
