The pads are soft faced and mount to the frame’s side fittings, and they can be set in or out to the width of the client so the contact is supportive without squeezing. Once set, they hold, which means your client returns to the same position every session and you can actually compare one stand to the next.

Two sizes cover the range. Choose on the size of the client’s trunk, not their age, and set the height so the pad meets the ribcage, not the underarm.
