When a hoist has to live in a small home, travel in a car, or move between two houses, the Oxford Advance is usually the answer. It comes apart into two pieces without tools and folds down small enough to sit in a boot or a hall cupboard between uses.
The legs open and close electrically from the handset, so the carer can work the base around chair legs and bed frames without bending down to a foot pedal, and the lift range runs from a floor pick-up through to most bed heights. Emergency lowering is fitted, and the six point rotatable spreader bar handles standard loop slings.
Community OTs and physios tend to carry one for the same reason families buy one: it goes where the client is, rather than the other way round.
