The Shifty moves a client from bed to chair, chair to commode or commode to shower without a powered hoist and without a sling.
The client puts their feet on the base, holds the frame and is supported by a sliding belt while the carer brings the seat board through underneath them. The board swings a long way, so it can be brought right under the client once they are up, and the leg spread opens around a chair or commode then closes for a doorway. Two locking castors hold the frame still through the transfer, and the belt is included, so there is no sling to size or launder.
It suits clients who can bear some weight through their legs, hold on with at least one hand and follow instructions, but cannot complete a stand and step transfer alone. It earns its place in aged care, respite and home care where one carer moves a client several times a day for toileting and showering and a full sling hoist would be slower than the job needs. It carries a high user weight for a manual aid.
